I Wanted to Tell You...

(A Friendship in Pictures)

December 28, 2014

by Rachel Ford

Leaf: This was where I had breakfast this morning. It's so good to be back in Asia...the whole place and everyone is smiling at my baby and I. (Chiang Mai, Thailand)

Rae: What a treat to have Ian and Christy and their two girls with us for a month! They are so dear to our hearts and brimming with health, as you have seen. (Chiang Mai, Thailand)

Leaf: We always need to be ourselves…unless we are ever given the opportunity to transform into a magical unicorn. (Glebe, Australia)

Rae: Sometimes, around my house, stretching happens. I love it. Heather, Derek, Chinua and Ian (not in the picture) were stretching before they went out for a run. (Pai, Thailand)

Rae: I was nearly out of gas on a long drive, far from our town, when I came upon this little station. Thankfulness overflowing! (Between Pai and Pang Mapha, Thailand)

Leaf: "I am a frayed and nibbled survivor in a fallen world, and I am getting along. I am ageing and eaten and have done my share of eating too. I am not washed and beautiful, in control of a shining world in which everything fits, but instead wandering awed on a splintered wreck I've come to care for, whose gnawed trees breathe delicate air, whose bloodied and scarred creatures are my dearest companions, and whose beauty beats and shines not in its imperfections but overwhelmingly in spite of them." Annie Dillard (Yarramundi, Australia)

Rae: The sun wasn't even over the mountain when I got back from my run the other morning. There was just enough light to capture this bicycle, filled with flowers like some kind of dream. (Pai, Thailand)

Leaf: My world is all about tiny things at the moment; tiny fingers and toes, a tiny (but huge) job of caring for a newborn…and it is all happening in the tiny space of my home right now. I was overjoyed to notice the Golden Ratio (Fibbonaci sequence) in this tiny bush flower after I loaded the photo onto my computer. Tiny and mind-blowing! (Yarramundi, Australia)

Rae: Wookie, Kai, and I got on the scooter one afternoon for a little drive out to a nearby village. Wookie loves sitting in the basket, and I love the way the wind picks up her ears when we drive. (Pai, Thailand)
