I Wanted to Tell You...

(A Friendship in Pictures)

April 9, 2014

by Rachel Ford

Leaf: Remember how I told you I was praying for the healthy birth of this little calf? Here he is!  'Shani' is his name, he is so strong that he walked all over the place just 20 minutes after he was born. I spent about an hour and a half just watching all the beauty unfold. I think that my neighbour is such a strong and spunky woman, I love my Bhabi Ji! (Varanasi, India)

Rae: We had drawing time today and Solo is really getting into it lately. I love seeing what he draws. (Pai, Thailand)

Leaf: I love it when Indian men hold their babies like this! This man and his young wife and extended family live right inside this gate at the entrance to an old British cemetery, I guess they are caretakers of the grounds. His wife was busy hanging washing and digging up a small plot for a garden while we were there. (Varanasi, India)

Rae: Isaac and Wookie are back together again, now that we're home in Pai. And since Isaac can walk now, he follows Wookie and Wookie follows him and they both follow me everywhere. (Pai, Thailand)

Leaf: Brendan making new friends on a family day wandering through the lane ways together. (Varanasi, India)

Rae: These mini buses and the curvy road between Chiang Mai and Pai are such a big part of my life now. Am I always on one? With a baby on my lap? It sometimes seems that way. (Between Chiang Mai and Pai, Thailand)

Leaf: The ultimate family vehicle in India the mighty "iscycle". Sometimes a man peddling his wife as she sits side saddle, sometimes a sadhu with his pet monkey sitting on the bar holding onto the handlebars and sometimes a young kid pedalling with his leg through the triangle part too short to sit. (Varanasi, India)

Rae: Perhaps the best thing about Thailand is chopped fruit on ice, sold in the street on a hot day. (Bangkok, Thailand)

Rae: I couldn't ask where these jewel-like ladies were from, but they certainly weren't from Goa. (Arambol, India)

Leaf: 'We have this treasure in jars of clay' meditation at the Ashram. (Varanasi, India)
Rae: This is the bakery where I often get pao, the soft rolls found in Goa and Maharastra. Inside is the biggest stone oven I have ever seen. And there's me in the bakery window. (Arambol, India)
